have you tried backing the system up ?
get into your control panel and back the system up to a point before the virus then run your normal scan/quarentine for viruses

That's a good idea. And if you have an anti-virus program, run it from safe mode to see if it can do anything. You do need to have a
good anti-virus/spyware program all the time. Keep it updated, and run it often. For example, I have a program which automaticly
updates itself. I run it almost daily. And this week alone, it stopped over 350 attacks. I also keep a version of Malwarebytes, and run
it occasionally.
I can't come down, it's plain to see.
I can't come down, I've been set free.
Who you are, and what you do,

yea I didn't have any protection, except for internet exploror alerts that ask if I want to display this webpage....

It was $140, could of went with $99 but he would of just removed a couple viruses, he ran a whole scan and tune up and stuff with the other one. I got free macfee security service I gotta download now (not from today thats from Cox).

I don't know nothing about computers but somebody that did would of probably been able to remove them but whatever its good now....

it was like $1,200 when I bought it, its a nice Sony Vaio - huge hard drive, plays Blue-Ray n all that fun stuff - plus I learned my lesson not to go without internet security anymore.

- I did actually think I was somewhat protected but def wasn't

well the problem is I didn't have macfee installed - not that it didn't work or let viruses through

I prefer mozilla firefox to IE for a web browser. Supposedly, firefox is more protective. But as Chester says, you have to have some sort of anti virus/spyware and run it daily. You can still surf while its clearing all the shit out. I use the microsoft security - its free for the basic stuff which works well. Its simple to set up and use.

i can repeat what others said try safe mode first then run avg for free, another option is bring it to staples they have computer techs there that may help and if you cry poor kid routine they might give ya a break. i run norton and never had a problem you have to have some sort of anti virus protection, you just learned an expensive lesson oh yeah stop checking out porn sites hahaha

I ordered tix for Raleigh, and a few days later got an email from UPS w/ an attachment. Clicked on the attachment then noticed, too late, that this email had been sent to lots of people and didn't have a damn thing to do w/ ticketmaster, was too psyched. Almost DESTROYED my laptop.

DO THIS: Find a computer you can use for half an hour or so; one that you can burn discs on (and have a blank CD or two). Go to CNET.com, download MALWAREBYTE'S ANTI-MALWARE, then burn it on a disc. You can install it and run it on yer messed-up 'puter w/ the disc in the drive (ignore every stupid window claiming you can't do this). Run the full scan.

OR for really, really fucked-up 'puter, do same, download EMSISOFT, it'll install from the disc regardless how bad (this program is the bad-assest). Run deep clean and, like, go to work, or crash for the night, or something cuz it takes 8-10 hrs. Seriously. emsisoft is hard core.

With both, anything found and quarantined should be deleted.

I just got back online yesterday, and yeah, it sucks having your computer taken hostage. Good luck!!!

well its all set now $140 later but this thread is definitly going in my favorites, thanks everyone for all the advice.

I wasn't going on porn sites either otherwise I think I would of had a virus a long time ago - the computer is like 2.5 years old and all I ever had was the expired anti virus that came with it....

I was searching all over google at like 4-5am east coast time for some show reviews and I got this message which looked just like a real warning I get on my computer so I clicked "don't allow" or something like that and bam, pop ups everywhere..... all these fake security scans kept coming up telling me my computer was infected (but those were all viruses) and there were these "end program" pop ups that looked like they came from task manager but they were part of the virus so clicking those things causes all other shit to pop up, it was pretty rediculous.
